The first player to achieve the feat was Scottish golfer Willie Anderson, who won back-to-back US Opens in three consecutive years, not just two.

The Scotsman won his first US Open in 1901, before then winning three in a row from 1903-1905. Anderson’s four US Open wins, three of which were back-to-back-to-back, is tied for the most amount of US Open victories in history.

The second golfer to win back-to-back US Opens was John McDermott in 1911 and 1912. The American won his first US Open in a playoff, before backing that up with a second consecutive US Open success the following year.

Bobby Jones, who won four US Opens in total, is another player who achieved US Open success in back-to-back years. Jones won the US Open in 1929 and 1930, and is one of only five players in history to have won the tournament as an amateur as well.

Ralph Guldahl was the next b2b US Open winner, achieving this feat with successes in both 1937 and 1938. His second was sheer dominance too, with Guldahl winning his second consecutive US Open by six strokes.

Ben Hogan, another player who has won four US Opens, won back-to-back titles in 1950 and 1951. These were the second and third of his US Open triumphs, with his first coming in 1948 and last in 1953.

Another of the golfers who won back-to-back US Opens was Curtis Strange. The American achieved this feat in 1988 and 1989, before never winning another tournament on the PGA Tour.

Koepka has won five major championships in total – two US Opens and three PGA Championships. The American star won his b2b US Opens in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

‘Brooksy’ won the 2017 US Open at Erin Hills by four strokes on a score of -16. He then backed this up the following year at Shinnecock Hills to win his second consecutive US Open. This time he won it on +1 par.
