2025 Preakness Stakes: Randy Moss and Jerry Bailey Picks & Best Bets

Moss and Bailey spoke about their Preakness picks with the In The Money Media Network.

Longshots For The Preakness

When asked to give a long-shot winner, Bailey struggled to come up with a horse.

“Gosger, I don’t think is good enough. I don’t like American Promise coming back,” Bailey said. “I don’t think Goal Oriented can step up like that because he’s going to get pressure early.”

Bailey thinks Clever Again should not be considered a long shot.

While Bailey couldn’t make a pick, Moss likes the No. 4 as his long shot.

“Heart of Honor would be mine for the bottom of a tri or a super,” Moss said. “I don’t think he’s good enough to run one-two.”

Moss noted that you see late-closers come on strong toward the end of the race as the speed fades. Moss likes having Heart of Honor at the end of his exotics if you want a horse that will have a good price.

Randy Moss And Jerry Bailey Pick Their Winners

Despite the two-week turnaround, Bailey is siding with the favorite, Journalism.

“I’m gonna believe what Michael McCarthy [Journalism’s trainer] says, that he looks as good going into this race as he did going into the Derby,” Bailey said. “I think he’s the best horse.”

Moss also agrees that Journalism is the best horse. However, Moss thinks the two-week turnaround for Journalism might hurt its chances of winning.

With an 8-5 price on Journalism, Moss will go elsewhere for his pick to win.

“I’ll go with Clever Again,” Moss said. “I don’t think that much separates the two horses.”

If Clever Again gets to 5-1, Moss thinks that’s a “good price” for the horse.
