Dobbins will remain in the AFC West, but he’s trading in a lightning bolt for a horse.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Dobbins is g a one-year, $5.25 million contract with the Denver Broncos.
Dobbins met with the Broncos last week and had dinner with the coaching staff. Judging by today’s g, Dobbins had a successful meeting with head coach Sean Payton.
Dobbins is coming off a career-best year with the Los Angeles Chargers.
The former second-round pick spent his first four seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. Injuries plagued Dobbins’ tenure in Baltimore, including a torn Achilles tendon in 2023 that cost him the majority of the season.
During the 2024 offseason, Dobbins signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Chargers for less than $2 million.
The deal ended up being one of the best moves in free agency, as Dobbins led the Chargers in carries (195), rushing yards (905), and rushing touchdowns (9).
In April, the Chargers put the rare unrestricted free agent (UFA) tender on Dobbins. The Chargers held exclusive negotiating rights with Dobbins if he failed to sign a contract by July 22 or the first day of training camp.
Since Dobbins did sign a deal, the Chargers are eligible for a compensatory draft pick in 2026, though it’s unclear at this time if they will get one.

Running backs have thrived in Sean Payton’s offenses in the past. Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram immediately come to mind from Payton’s time in New Orleans.
However, Denver’s rushing attack was average in 2024.
No Denver running back — including Javonte Williams, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Audric Estime — rushed for more than 515 yards.
McLaughlin and Estime are back this season, while Williams signed with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Broncos used a second-round draft pick on UFC running back R.J. Harvey.
Dobbins will compete for the starting job and has a chance to win it due to his experience.
