All eyes will be on Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Woods at the TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort’s Black Course on Wednesday morning. The younger Woods shot an impressive 7-under 65 in the second round and is just one shot back of tournament leader Luke Smith.
At 16 years old, Woods has competed in only four previous AJGA events, with his best result being a top-25 finish at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in March. Currently ranked No. 604 in the AJGA rankings, he’s starting to build some momentum.
A win this weekend would be huge, not only for Woods’ ranking but also as a bounce-back after his disappointing finish at the local U.S. Open qualifying round earlier this month, where he failed to make the cut.
Charlie Woods In Contention At TaylorMade Invitational
In the second round of the TaylorMade Invitational, Woods posted an impressive scorecard, finishing with a 7-under 65 to move into a tie for second place at 9-under, just one stroke behind the leader. His performance tied him with Luke Smith for the tournament’s lowest second-round score.
Despite a pair of bogeys on the front nine, Woods recorded nine birdies in the round to climb up the leaderboard. He opened the tournament with a wild first round, shooting a 2-under 70 that included three pars, one eagle, eight birdies, five bogeys, and a triple bogey.
The final round is scheduled to tee off at 7:33 a.m. on Wednesday, with groups starting on both holes No. 1 and No. 12.
Charlie Woods Misses Qualifying at 2025 U.S. Open
For the second year in a row, Charlie Woods has missed out on advancing from one of the local U.S. Open qualifiers. He was one of 10,202 entries for the U.S. Open but didn’t make the cut. Still, the 16-year-old showed progress, posting a 3-over 75 at Wellington Golf Club on May 8.
He finished about seven strokes shy of advancing to the 36-hole final qualifying stage, but it was an improvement over his score from last year, when he shot an 81 in a local qualifier.
Even his father, Tiger Woods, is encouraging fans to be patient with Charlie. Speaking at the PNC Championship last December, Tiger said, “He has gotten better at every facet of the game.”
“I know he’s been doing this in front of the media for a long time, but I think it’s incredible what he’s been able to accomplish so far, and the ceiling that he has is unlimited.”
