Tyler Atkinson, the top linebacker in the 2026 class, is taking his time. And while the recruitment is still open, Georgia continues to lead the pack heading into a critical summer stretch.

The Grayson (GA) star has already visited Oregon, with Clemson and others still making their pitch. But all signs still point to Kirby Smart’s program as the one to beat.

Georgia Has Always Been Favorite for Atkinson

There are a few reasons that Bulldogs fans should be optimistic that Atkinson will suit up for them. They include:

  • Atkinson is from Loganville — just 45 minutes from Athens.
  • He’s visited Georgia multiple times across his high school career.
  • His relationship with the UGA staff is long-established.
  • Feels like “he grew up at UGA.”

Even as other schools ramp up their efforts, the Bulldogs haven’t lost ground. They were one of the first major programs to offer him. He’s comfortable in Athens, and Georgia’s recent linebacker success is exactly the kind of development pipeline Atkinson is looking for.

This Weekend’s UGA Visit Is Big — But Not Everything

Atkinson is expected to visit Georgia again this weekend, but the visit isn’t seen as a make-or-break moment. It’s more about reaffirming what’s already a strong relationship than it is about a major recruiting swing.

  • He’s not in a rush — no commitment date yet.
  • Georgia remains consistent behind the scenes.
  • Staff trust and scheme fit continue to hold weight.

Even without a verbal pledge, Georgia’s quiet confidence here matters. They don’t need to sell Atkinson — they just need to maintain the edge they’ve built over the last two years.

Oregon Is Making This Interesting for Atkinson

Dan Lanning and Oregon have given Georgia a real challenge. The Ducks hosted Atkinson in early June and made a strong impression.

  • Oregon’s defensive pitch is solid — Lanning has SEC roots
  • They rolled out the red carpet during his official visit
  • Some buzz has picked up nationally about their momentum

Still, for all the interest, Oregon feels like a close second. Geography, comfort level, and familiarity all tilt toward Georgia right now. And while NIL will play a role, Atkinson doesn’t appear to be chasing the biggest number.

Other Schools Still Involved

Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State remain in , and each has hosted him in the past. But barring something unexpected, none of them have the traction Georgia does.

Where Things Stand

Atkinson’s recruitment is far from over, but the trend line hasn’t changed much:

  • Georgia remains in the lead
  • Oregon has emerged as the top challenger
  • Other contenders haven’t made up ground

Unless another school pulls off a recruiting surprise, Tyler Atkinson still looks most likely to end up a Georgia Bulldog.
