Scottie Scheffler has been on a tear recently, cementing his place as the top golfer in the world during the first half of the 2025 calendar year. The sportsbooks and oddsmakers have taken notice, as the 28-year-old is now the biggest favorite that the US Open has seen since 2009.
Scottie Scheffler Favored To Win His First US Open
Scheffler, the top-ranked player in the world, has won three out of the last four tournaments that he has played in. He hasn’t been simply edging out the competition, either, as he managed to win the PGA Championship back in May by a full five strokes over the rest of the field. In those three tournament victories, Scheffler has won by a combined total of 17 strokes.

He has entered twelve tournaments so far during the 2025 calendar year, and has placed in the top-11 in ten of them.
Now, according to the bookies, Scheffler is a heavy favorite to win the US Open this weekend. According to BetMGM, he will carry a +275 designation into the weekend, easily the shortest designation on the board. In fact, Scheffler has the lowest odds of any player to win the US Open since 2009. When Tiger Woods carried a figure of +175.
The implied odds for Scottie Scheffler are 26.67%. Betting on the entire rest of the field carries a designation of -400 (66% implied odds).
Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm Listed At +1200
There is only one other US Open participant who is carrying odds lower than +1000. Bryson DeChambeau, who is the defending US Open champ, is listed at +750. His designation represents a solid value for someone who has won the event multiple times already and has finished in 6th place or better in five of his last six major appearances.
Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy are both listed at +1200. Xander Schauffele rounds out the top five with a designation of +2000.
The 2025 US Open will tee off on Thursday morning. For the first time since 2016, the tournament will be played at Oakmont Country Club just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
