2025 Bahrain Grand Prix Driver Ratings 1c3eb

Oscar Piastri – 10 3y2610

Qualified 1st, Finished 1st (Season average rating – 8.5)

Scores the perfect mark in our driver ratings after a faultless weekend from qualifying until the final lap of the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Won by 15 seconds which is very impressive since there was a mid-race safety car. He took the first pole position, fastest lap and race winner hat-trick of his career.

Oscar Piastri is the first driver to win two races in the 2025 season

George Russell – 9.5 i2r11

Qualified – 3rd, Finished 2nd (Season average rating – 8.4)

Lost a spot on the grid due to a team error which demoted him from second to third. However, he made up for it on race day by finishing second in the Bahrain Grand Prix.

A great start saw him get past Charles Leclerc and managed to keep Oscar Piastri honest during the opening stages of the race. He did incredibly well to make his soft tyres last so long while keeping Lando Norris behind him at the end.

All that when his car was playing up and his DRS was opening when he pressed the radio button. This led to a post-race investigation but correctly the stewards decided not to punish the Mercedes driver.

George Russell produced an excellent drive at the Bahrain Grand Prix

Lando Norris – 6.5 3d5i3o

Qualified 6th, Finished 3rd (Season average rating – 7.8)

A very messy weekend from Lando Norris though the ultimate pace of the McLaren allowed him to climb onto the podium.

After qualifying sixth in the best car, his first mistake on race day came right at the start. He parked too forward of his grid box, handing him a five-second penalty which likely cost him second place.

Lost a position to Charles Leclerc before the safety car and then struggled to get past the Monegasque when he was on the quicker medium tyres. This meant by the time he caught up with George Russell it was too late.

Charles Leclerc – 8.5 1m6w67

Qualified 2nd, Finished 4th (Season average rating 7.1)

Strong weekend from Charles Leclerc who achieved just about the maximum he can afford from his Ferrari presently.

He lost two positions at the start but showed some impressive pace in the second stint of the race.

Leclerc overtook Norris for third and briefly looked like he could finish on the podium. However, he had no answer when the McLaren switched to the quicker medium tyre after the safety car – despite putting in a good fight.

Charles Leclerc was in contention for a podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton – 7 4cp3e

Qualified 9th, Finished 5th (Season average rating – 6.1)

Disappointing in qualifying but a much better race for the seven-time world champion.

Made his way up the order after the first round of pitstops to get past the likes of Max Verstappen. Also briefly was ahead of Lando Norris after overtaking him just after the safety car.

Hamilton will be hoping for more though as he struggled to match the pace of teammate Charles Leclerc.

Max Verstappen – 7.5 506o6c

Qualified 7th, Finished 6th (Season average rating – 9)

The fact that Max Verstappen finished sixth is a big testament to the Dutchman’s qualities given the struggles he had during the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Verstappen had two botched pit stops, brake issues, struggled on the hard tyres and at one point was running last out of all 20 drivers.

Yet he achieved the maximum he could have hoped for after overtaking Pierre Gasly on the last lap. The Bahrain Grand Prix was a test of his patience and showed Red Bull need to improve their car if they are to challenge for the title this season.

Max Verstappen did well to get sixth after a difficult Bahrain Grand Prix

Pierre Gasly – 8.5 1q4i63

Qualified 4th, Finished 7th (Season average rating – 6.6)

A return to form for Pierre Gasly who struggled for pace over the first three races of the season.

Did an excellent job to put his Alpine on the second row of the grid. He struggled to keep the quicker cars behind him in the race but still showed some strong pace.

Nothing he could do to stop Max Verstappen getting past him on the last lap.

Esteban Ocon – 8 2a6559

Qualified 14th, Finished 8th (Season average rating – 7)

Caught many off guard when he suddenly appeared ahead of Max Verstappen after the first round of pit stops.

He benefitted from an early pit stop which allowed him to undercut his way past several drivers.

Made life hard for quicker cars behind him to get past including Verstappen, and eighth was a great finish after his crash in qualifying.

Yuki Tsunoda – 6.5 e513p

Qualified 10th, Finished 9th (Season average rating – 6)

Scored his first points since switching to Red Bull though is still getting to grips with his new car.

The Japanese driver was more looking over his shoulder than ahead of him and was lucky that his Red Bull remained unscathed after heavy with Carlos Sainz.

Oliver Bearman – 8.5 6eh39

Qualified 20th, Finished 10th (Season average rating – 7)

An excellent recovery drive from Oliver Bearman who qualified last after a mistake in qualifying.

Bearman raced through the order while others in cars just as quick struggled to do so.

Finished just three seconds behind his teammate Esteban Ocon which is impressive given how far he started down – although helped by the safety car.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli – 6 4y1q10

Qualified 5th, Finished 11th (Season average rating – 7)

It was a bizarre Bahrain Grand Prix for Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The Mercedes driver looked racy throughout and at one point looked on for a top-five finish.

The Italian’s race was ruined by the unfortunate timing of the safety car just after his second pit stop.

Took too much time recovering ground which meant he didn’t have enough time to get back into the points. The Mercedes car had pace but Antonelli couldn’t make the most out of it like teammate George Russell.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli missed out on points because of the safety car

Alex Albon – 6 5x2w5b

Qualified 15th, Finished 12th (Season average rating – 7.8)

Wrongly missed out on the second part of qualifying after Nico Hulkenberg’s lap-time was deleted too late.

This left him playing catch-up and though at one point he looked like he could score points, he lost out due to the timing of the safety car.

It’s the first race of the season that Albon has not scored some points.

Isack Hadjar – 6 595f1

Qualified 12th, Finished 13th (Season average rating – 6.1)

Difficult weekend for Racing Bulls and Isack Hadjar who weren’t as competitive in Bahrain as they were in previous races.

Hadjar lost four places at the start and was another driver to be hampered by pitting before the safety car came out.

However, it was unlikely that the youngster would have finished in the points anyway.

Jack Doohan – 5 1y3n4d

Qualified 11th, Finished 14th (Season average rating – 3.8)

A race of two halves for Jack Doohan who at one point looked like he could score his first points.

However, he struggled on the hard tyres to keep those on the softs behind him and dropped back.

The Australian also received a penalty for breaching track limits too often.

Fernando Alonso – 5.5 1g5p6

Qualified 13th, Finished 15th (Season average rating – 5.8)

Tough start to the season for the double world champion as his Aston Martin lacked pace all weekend and never looked like a points contender.

Attempted to extend his stint on the medium tyres to try something different, but the safety car meant that he couldn’t benefit from it and potentially jump up a few positions.

Liam Lawson – 3 47w41

Qualified 17, Finished 16th (Season average rating – 3.1)

Things are just not getting better for Liam Lawson who after struggling to get anywhere near four-time world champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull, is now being outperformed by rookie teammate Isack Hadjar at Racing Bulls.

Lawson actually crossed the line in 13th but received a five-second penalty for colliding with Lance Stroll, and an additional 10-second penalty for colliding with Nico Hulkenberg.

Desperately needs things to turn around if he isn’t to lose his place in F1. Scores the lowest mark in the Bahrain Grand Prix driver ratings.

Liam Lawson received 15 seconds in time penalties at the Bahrain Grand Prix

Lance Stroll – 4 z4u4z

Qualified 19th, Finished 17th (Season average rating – 5.2)

Not much to say for Lance Stroll who qualified on the back row and only finished ahead of one other driver.

Struggled to match teammate Fernando Alonso throughout the weekend, but the Aston Martin team were never in the fight at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Gabriel Bortoleto – 4.5 154if

Qualified 18th, Finished 18th (Season average rating – 4.9)

Gabriel Bortoleto has shown glimpses of speed this season but he can’t do much with his Sauber which is the slowest car on the grid.

The Brazilian bemoaned a lack of grip which meant that he couldn’t overtake the cars ahead of him.

Carlos Sainz – 4.5 6qk3t

Qualified 8th, DNF – Collision Damage (Season average rating – 4.2)

A weekend that started off so promisingly that ended in more disappointment for Carlos Sainz.

The Spaniard might have sneaked into the points if it wasn’t for his collision with Yuki Tsunoda. It was a racing accident but it cost Sainz dearly.

His pace in the race was also slightly lacking as Alex Albon who qualified seven places below him, was just one position behind at the time of his crash with Tsunoda.

Nico Hulkenberg – 6.5 393h3s

Qualified 16th, DSQ – Excessive plank wear (Season average rating – 6.2)

Tough weekend for Nico Hulkenberg who was pushed wide on the opening lap and fell to the back of the pack.

Did manage to recover to 15th, but was disqualified after the race due to excessive plank wear.
