Serie A leaders Inter Milan claimed a thrilling 2-1 victory over Bundesliga juggernauts Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night, 8 April.

The visitors landed the first blow in the Champions League tie, courtesy of star-striker Lautaro Martinez’s sublime outside-the-boot finish in the 38th minute. The Bavarians pushed hard to equalize, but it did not arrive until the final five minutes of the hotly contested duel.

Substitute Thomas Muller, who came off the bench in the 74th minute, scored the leveller, tapping home Konrad Laimer’s delivery from point-blank range. Bayern looked content with a draw, but Inter refused to keep the tie in the balance. Two minutes after Bayern’s goal, Inter went on the counter, with Nicolo Barrella playing a dinked ball through for Carlos Augusto. The left wingback penetrated the box before zipping the ball across the face of the goal. Davide Frattessi connected sweetly with the delivery to take it beyond Jonas Urbig and win the game for Inter.
