A video has emerged on social media showing UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones declaring he is “done” with fighting, sparking speculation that he is set to retire.

American Jon “Bones” Jones has not fought since successfully defending his title against Stipe Miocic in November.

And this new video appears to suggest he doesn’t plan to fight again, putting a major dent in British fighter and interim champ Tom Aspinall’s plans to unify the heavyweight titles.

Jones has been locked in negotiations with the UFC over a fight with Aspinall, with little progress made.

UFC president Dana White has provided updates and assured fans that an announcement is imminent, but Jones could have put a damper on those plans.

In footage shared on social media this week, Jones was asked when he was likely to fight again, with the champion replying: “I’m done.”

Did Jon Jones Retire? 2x5w1s

While nothing has been confirmed, this video comes within hours of Jones responding ding similarly to comments on social media.

When it was suggested to him that he would soon be stripped of the title if he did not take the Aspinall fight, he was bullish in his reply.

Jones wrote: “Stripped? Lol do I come across as the type of person who cares about things like that?”

“Ya’ll barking up the wrong tree, I told the UFC my plans a long time ago. I have no clue why they haven’t shared them with you guys yet.”

Those “plans” of Jones’ could well be retirement, though he is yet to announce it officially.

He then replied to a comment asking for details, saying: “[My plan is] to continue to monetise this amazing brand that I’ve created.”

Will Jon Jones Vs Tom Aspinall Happen? 344q2f

Fans have been desperate to see Jones Vs Aspinall since the former’s win against Miocic.

But with no deal on the horizon and this latest development, it’s looking increasingly unlikely.

Aspinall has now held the interim title for a record-breaking 535 days. But despite not fighting, Jones has not been forced to vacate the belt.

According to the British fighter, money is the most probably reason for Jones’ refusal to agree to the fight.

British fighter Tom Aspinall is the UFC interim heavyweight champion.

Aspinall recently offered Jones an ultimatum, stating they should get on with the much-anticipated bout.

He said: “Me personally, I can’t do anything. I think it’s just down to money, on his side.

“I will fight whenever, wherever he wants, but it’s down to money, I think.

“When you put him in with a guy of my size who has those credentials, at this stage in his career, I think Jon is a smart guy and he realises that he wants to be compensated financially for it.

“I’m well bored of it, I’ve had enough. We either need to fight or I need to move on, do something else.”
