Carlos Sainz might have been booted out of Ferrari in favour of Lewis Hamilton, but he looked quick during pre-season testing in Bahrain in his new team.
The Williams driver set the fastest time of the week with a 1:29.348 on Thursday. It was a time that was nearly six-tenths up on the 1:29.921 he set for Ferrari last year which was the best time of 2024 pre-season testing in Bahrain.
There are also some positive signs for Hamilton who makes the jump to Ferrari after 12 years at Mercedes.
He set the second quickest time of the week with a 1:29.379, with teammate Charles Leclerc rounding out the top three.
George Russell was the quickest man on Friday and recorded the fourth best time of pre-season testing, with four-time world champion Max Verstappen just 0.021 seconds behind the Mercedes driver.
While the times offer some early signs of promise, they don’t tell the full picture. F1 pre-season testing in Bahrain sees teams use different fuel loads and strategies during the sessions.
The McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri didn’t go for the ultimate lap time. However, their race simulations over the three days showed some promise that they can again challenge for both titles.
Below, are the full results showing the best times from each driver during this week’s F1 pre-season testing in Bahrain.
