Gianni Buttice (@giannibuttice) is back with his latest set of FPL tips for Gameweek 30. This week, he questions whether Omar Marmoush can cover the output of his Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland.

FPL Gameweek 30 Tips: Can Marmoush Cover Haaland? 3w2dl

With Leicester at home up next, owning and captaining a Manchester City forward will be a priority for many, but should we be ripping up our teams for Erling Haaland, or is Omar Marmoush the better option considering he costs half the price?

Marmoush arrived in Manchester a couple of days before City hosted Chelsea and, as a surprise to many, was thrown straight into the starting XI. He has now started six of seven league games and is clearly a first-choice option for Pep Guardiola. Very few get this preferential treatment from Pep, especially when they’re new to the league, but clearly, Guardiola feels he can’t afford to bench the Egyptian when his goal threat is so high.

Marmoush has impressed and is surely a ready-made replacement for Julian Alvarez but perhaps even more versatile than the Argentinian. Marmoush has played wide, as the number nine and in what looks like his best position, as the number 10 behind Haaland.

Foden and de Bruyne were again benched versus Brighton, where Marmoush clocked 12 points. He’s technically brilliant, composed in front of goal and accurate from range, which is why he’s catching the eye of so many FPL managers. Costing half the price of Haaland at £7.3 million, expect Marmoush to be one of the most transferred-in players of the gameweek.

Comparing the forwards in the seven games Marmoush has been available. They both have four goals from 14 attempts, although crucially, 12 of Haaland’s shots are in the box versus only four of Marmoush’s. Haaland therefore averages 0.60 xG per game, whilst Marmoush s 0.20 xG. In short, both are elite finishers, but Haaland has much better-quality chances. When it comes to creativity however, Marmoush edges it but is not the creative influence of a Foden or De Bruyne. The Egyptian creates a chance every 60 minutes compared to Haaland’s 76 minutes.

City have a great run of fixtures and likely at least one double gameweek before the season draws to a conclusion, and captaining a City forward will surely be front of mind in several of the remaining gameweeks. Captaincy plays a huge part in FPL, and Haaland is clearly the better option if money isn’t an issue. He comes with a 90-minute appeal, takes penalties and eats up the big chances in this team. When the fixture is there for Marmoush however, he’s still a good captain option for those that don’t own or can’t stretch to Haaland.

Whilst Marmoush is first choice, his minutes guarantee simply isn’t the same as Haaland’s. Gameweek 30 comes three days after the FA Cup match versus Bournemouth, and it’s fair to assume Marmoush likely won’t play 90 minutes in both games, Haaland on the other hand, surely will, and with that in mind, those hoping Marmoush can match Haaland’s output for the run-in should be cautious. Owning both, however, could be the play.
