Burnley’s James Trafford could be heading to Newcastle United after the club opened talks over the £40 million-rated goalkeeper.

It’s the second time that Eddie Howe’s side have shown concrete interest in Trafford.

The 22-year-old former England youth international looked destined for St James’ Park last summer.

But when that deal fell through, Trafford stayed at Turf Moor and played a pivotal role in Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League.

The Clarets finished second in the EFL Championship, level on 100 points with champions Leeds United.

But having helped his side return to the top flight, it seems the Burnley shot-stopper could be heading for the exit.

Trafford has previously hinted at a willingness to leave the club, and the promise of UEFA Champions League football is hard to turn down.

Negotiations are ongoing, with the two clubs in discussion again this month.

But as it stands, any deal remains some way off.

However, both clubs are expected to reach a compromise, though this one could be a long saga if Burnley refuse to budge.
