This Saturday Lingfield racecourse in Surrey plays host to its biggest day on its horse racing calendar – when it stages the Lingfield Derby and Oaks Trials. However, just how good a guide have these races been in producing winners of the Epsom Derby and Oaks in recent years?

We take a look at when the last time a horse won both races and the total double winners – and showcase the final Lingfield Derby and Oaks Trial runners for 2025.

The Last Lingfield Oaks Trial Winner To Win At Epsom Was Anapurna In 2019 1q2zr

It’s a shame this Saturday’s Lingfield Oaks Trial will only see three runners – yes THREE.

And with one of them Giselle, for in-form trainer Aidan O’Brien, likely to be a hot favourite with the best UK horse racing sportsbooks – then this 1m 3 1/2 race isn’t going to be much of a betting proposition.

Giselle is currently around 20/1 for the Epsom Oaks on June 6th, so will need to win well at Lingfield on Saturday to enhance her price.

But if she can win – just which horses will she be trying to emulate in the main event at Epsom?

The last horse to win the Lingfield Oaks Trial and then take the Epsom Oaks was Anapurna in 2019.

Watch below as the Frankie Dettori-ridden filly was gutsy from the front to see off Pink Dogwood by a neck.

At the time, she was providing Dettori with his fifth win in the Epsom Oaks – but the pocket Italian has since gone onto win two more with Soul Sister in 2023 and Snowfall in 2021.

Prior to Anapurna, it was the Henry Cecil-trained Ramruma in 1999 that did the double and before her it was Lady Carla in 1996 and Friendly in 1992.

In total, since 1971 – there’s been just SIX horses to win both the Lingfield Oaks Trial and Epsom Oaks (see below).

The Last Lingfield Derby Trial Winner To Win At Epsom Was Anthony Van Dyck In 2019 662f28

Onto the Lingfield Derby Trial and just like in 2019 for the Oaks – this was also a big year for this race – with Anthony Van Dyck also following up in the Epsom Derby.

Anthony Van Dyck was giving trainer Aidan O’Brien a fifth Lingfield Derby Trial win as the time, but he’s since added a sixth when United Nations won in 2022.

However, with six wins in the race O’Brien is still not the top trainer. This still sits with Cecil Boyd-Rochfort, who won the Lingfield race 10 times between 1939 and 1961.

O’Brien will try and increase his tally with Puppet Master and Stay True two entries for the Ballydoyle man.

Van Dyck still remains the last horse to follow up in the Epsom Derby (watch below). When he saw off Madhmoon that year by 1/2 on the Downs.

While before him, the last horse to win both the Lingfield Trial and the Epsom Derby was High Rise in 1998. Which was 21 years earlier than Van Dyck.

In 1997 we almost had another as Lingfield winner Silver Patriarch was just touched off at Epsom by Benny The Dip.

But since 1983 there’s only been FIVE winners of both races – including the classy pair of Teenso (1983) and Slip Anchor (1985).

With the last-named providing trainer Henry Cecil with the first of his four Epsom Derby wins.

This year’s Epsom Derby will be run on Saturday 7th June – so will we see another double winner?
