Former Fulham goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli has ed Manchester City from Chelsea on a one-year deal.

City paid a nominal fee to secure the English shot-stopper, whose contract runs until 2026.

The 33-year-old’s arrival comes after the news that veteran City backup keeper Scott Carson would depart the Etihad this month.

Bettinelli becomes City’s second new arrival of the summer. Pep Guardiola’s side have also announced the g of Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri in a £31 million deal.

Speaking after his g was announced, Bettenelli said: “It’s an honour to sign for City. I have ired from afar what this club have achieved since Pep Guardiola arrived and now, I am excited to be a part of building on that success.

“I can’t wait to work with Pep, Xabi Mancisidor and the excellent goalkeepers already here and see their methods up close.

“Hopefully I can contribute in training, the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to win more silverware over the next year.”

Bettinelli ed Chelsea in 2021, but made just one appearance at Stamford Bridge.

He s up with City as they prepare to be one of two Premier League teams in the Club World Cup.

Bettinelli comes into the City squad with the expectation of being third-choice.

The outgoing Scott Carson, 39, has famously won two UEFA Champions League titles despite playing zero minutes.

As well as City’s 2023 triumph, Carson was also on the bench for Liverpool on ‘that night’ in Istanbul in 2005.

Dubbed the ‘easiest job in football’, being a third-choice keeper is not a role every player would accept.

But with starter Ederson deputised by German Stefan Ortega, Bettinelli will know he is highly unlikely to feature in a competitive match.

That’s unlikely to bother him, though. His weekly salary at Chelsea was £35,000, with his City wage expected to be similar.

Pep Guardiola is said to want Cherki available for the start of the Club World Cup.

The 21-year-old Frenchman scored 12 goals and added 20 assists in 40 games for Lyon last season.

He will on a £34 million deal, with an announcement thought to be imminent.
