Sir Kenny Dalglish led the Liverpool team which also included the likes of Steven Gerrard, Sami Hyypia, Dirk Kuyt and Jerzy Dudek.
Chelsea’s squad included Claude Makelele, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Ramires and Danny Wise – and they were coached by 2012 Champions League winning coach Roberto Di Matteo.
The game marked 20 years since the sides’ famous Champions League semi-final. Liverpool famously went through to the final because of Luis Garcia’s ‘ghost goal’ and lifted the trophy in Istanbul after beating AC Milan on penalties.
It was a fairly even first-half with Gregory Vignal having the best chance only for Ryan Babel to get in the way.
Gerrard rolled back the years with some fantastic es but it wasn’t until Crouch came off the bench in the second-half that Liverpool took the lead.
Crouch headed home Florent Siname Pongolle’s brilliant cross, before adding a second with a fine lobbed cross over Robert Green 11 minutes later.
The TNT Sport pundit performed the robot after his first goal to the delight of the home fans. Liverpool Legends held out for a 2-0 victory over Chelsea Legends.
The game raised funds for the LFC Foundation and ing beneficiaries including Forever Reds, Chelsea FC Foundation and Chelsea Players’ Trust.
