The Portuguese Primeira Liga, particularly the big three clubs, has become the hotspot of young football talent during the past decade. The league and its major clubs have built a reputation for selling future football stars for big bucks, and the recently concluded January window was no different. According to the numbers presented by Sportscasting.com, the Primeira Liga made a net profit of £110.8M, the highest globally.

When it comes to making profits on transfers, the Portuguese clubs have perfected the art. Over the last decade, the Portuguese league has been way ahead of the other leagues, and the same was the case in January.

As gathered from the Transfermarkt data, Primeira Liga made a net profit of £110.8M in the January window. FC Porto were the biggest earners as they allowed Nico Gonzalez (to Manchester City), and Galeno (to Al-Ahli) to leave.

Dutch top-tier Eredivisie also made a significant profit of £63.4M in the winter market. Santiago Gimenez’s move from Feyenoord to AC Milan was the biggest sale in the Dutch league.

Conversely, Premier League clubs were the biggest net spenders in the market. Owing to Manchester City’s splurge in the market, the English league made an overall loss of £264.1M. Jhon Duran’s move to Saudi club Al-Nassr was the biggest sale in the Premier League. 

Serie A ed a net loss of £38.4M, followed by Bundesliga with a net loss of £21.3M. Kvaratskhelia’s move to PSG was the biggest outgoing transfer in Serie A. Meanwhile, the same accolade in the Bundesliga belonged to Omar Marmoush, who moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to Man City.
