Watch Southampton Vs Tottenham highlights as a ruthless Spurs thrashed Southampton 5-0 at St. Mary’s on Sunday night.

With both managers under pressure going into this one, it was Tottenham who responded emphatically with a clinical display.

A horrifying opening 25 minutes saw Spurs 4-0 up and cruising, before adding a fifth at the end of the half.

Southampton tightened up after the break but Tottenham were treating the match like a training session for most of the evening.

James Maddison opened the scoring after just 38 seconds before Son Heung-Min doubled their advantage 11 minutes later.

It was 3-0 inside 14 minutes thanks to Dejan Kulusevski, and Pape Matar Sarr made it four inside half an hour.

Another Maddison goal made it 5-0 at halftime, with boos ringing out around St. Mary’s.

Tottenham fans were treated to a goal-fest, Saints fans were chanting “Martin out!” for most of the game.

The defeat makes it 13 losses in 16 Premier League games for Southampton. Last year’s Championship playoff winners looked devoid of confidence and out of idea, and are now nine points from safety.

No side has stayed up in the English top flight from such a position since Sheffield United back in 1992. Talk is growing of Saints equalling Derby County’s unwanted record for the fewest points in Premier League history.

For Tottenham, it was a much-needed shot in the arm after some disappointing results of their own.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has been under pressure from fans after recent losses to Bournemouth and Chelsea.

Thursday’s Europa League draw against Rangers at Ibrox did little to lift spirits, but this convincing win certainly will have done.

Next up, Tottenham host Manchester United in the League Cup quarter-finals on Thursday.

Southampton have their own quarter-final, with the daunting prospect of high-flying Liverpool coming to town on Wednesday.
