James Maddison doubled Tottenham’s lead on the night and put them ahead in the tie just three minutes after the break.
The England international exchanged es with Son inside the Alkmaar box before expertly firing home.
Alkmaar didn’t offer much threat on the night but they were gifted a way back into the tie just after the hour mark.
Bergvall was again at fault, this time alongside Odobert, as a mix-up between the pair outside their own box allowed Peer Koopmeiners to drill home for Alkmaar putting them level in the tie.
However, Tottenham again found their groove with Son and Odobert again having parts to play.
Son and Djed Spence combined smartly on the left flank before the latter drilled a cross into the path of Dominic Solanke.
The England striker just like for Tottenham’s opener flicked the ball on for Odobert to again put Tottenham ahead in the tie.
Tottenham held on to take the victory and keep their trophy hopes alive. Winning the Europa League would be huge for Postecoglou who has struggled in his second year at Tottenham with the club languishing in the bottom-half of the Premier League table.

Tottenham now move onto the quarter-finals where they will meet Eintracht Frankfurt.
Frankfurt won this competition in 2022 but failed to beat Tottenham when they met twice in the group stage of the 2022-23 Champions League.
For now, Tottenham turn their attention back to the Premier League, with a tricky away trip to Fulham on Sunday.
