Trent Alexander-Arnold stunned Liverpool fans by speaking in fluent Spanish during his Real Madrid unveiling on Thursday afternoon.

Ex-Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold gave a surprise speech in Spanish at his Real Madrid unveiling on Thursday.

The England international officially ed Los Blancos from the Reds in a move worth £10m last month. He was originally due to on a free transfer, but the LaLiga outfit were forced to pay a fee to accelerate his move for the Club World Cup.

He is set to make his debut for the club against Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in their Group H opener next Wednesday.

It was also confirmed during the unveiling that Alexander-Arnold will sport a new name and shirt number at the Santiago Bernabeu. The full-back will have ‘Trent’ emblazoned on the back of his jersey, along with the number 12.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: ‘It’s A Dream Come True’ g for Real Madrid 49458

Speaking at his unveiling on Thursday afternoon, Alexander-Arnold said entirely in Spanish: “Good afternoon. Thank you to (club president) Florentino Perez and the club for this opportunity.

This doesn’t happen every day, it’s a dream come true.”

He continued:

I’m very happy and proud to be here, I want to show Real Madrid fans how I play. I realise that I am g for Real Madrid and that the demands are high but I am going to give my all for the team and Real Madrid fans.

I want to show those fans how I play, I want to win many titles, I want to be a winner here and enjoy playing alongside the best players in the world. Hala Madrid.

The 26-year-old’s speech prompted a huge applause from those in attendance, clearly appreciating his efforts.

It also drew plenty of reaction from football fans around the globe on social media.

A Chelsea fan wrote in response: “No wonder he got caught lacking at the back post every other week. He was up all night on Duolingo.”

Duolingo made the most of the free ment and thanked Alexander-Arnold for his “1000 day spanish streak“.

Another fan added: “No way he was learning Spanish while he was still a Liverpool player.”

An angered Liverpool fan replied: “Couldn’t learn to defend the back post all his career and managed to learn Spanish in one year.

Alexander-Arnold later itted in his press conference that he had been learning the language for a “few months”.

Following their Club World Cup opener in Miami Gardens next week, Real Madrid will have a further two group matches. They take on Mexican side Pachuca on Sunday, 22 June, and face RB Salzburg on Thursday, 26 June.
